But today, we are going to focus on the gorgeous town of Avoca Beach.
Avoca Beach
Avoca Beach is one of the more peaceful places on the Central Coast, located in a quiet residential area surrounded by wooded hills, lakes and white sand beaches. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the people very friendly, making it a popular holiday destination for families. The beaches also offer great surfing conditions, with swells varying from one end of Avoca Beach to the other. This 1.7km of coastline attracts surfers with all different experience and skill levels. Even if you’ve never surfed at all, Central Coast Surf Academy has got you covered with lessons for beginners.
There are plenty of other activities to be had at the beach, whether you like to sunbake in peace, play a game of beach cricket with the family or take the dog for a walk. An interesting fact about Avoca Beach is the sinking of warship Ex-HMAS Adelaide to form an artificial reef. The ship lies 32m below the water surface, around 1.8km off the coast. If you’re experienced in diving, it is definitely worth joining a tour and having a look!
Avoca Surf House
After all that time in the salt and sun on Avoca Beach, there’s no doubt you will work up an appetite! Luckily, you won’t have to travel too far to refuel. Avoca Surf House is a restaurant sitting right on Avoca Beach. It makes the most of its location, with floor to ceiling glass walls and an open and inviting atmosphere for all beachgoers to relax in. Before lunchtime, it is transformed into a community building, offering activities such as yoga and book club.
Did I hear you ask, what’s on the menu? Relying heavily on sustainable, local produce, the menu changes depending on the season. Menu items include fresh oysters, fish tacos, pan fried ricotta gnocchi and wagyu beef burgers. The drinks menu is equally as satisfying, with delicious cocktails such as the pink gin pomegranate martini. On the weekends, it also hosts live music events for guests to enjoy while they eat their lunch or sip on some afternoon drinks.
Avoca Beachside Markets
If you’re lucky enough to be in Avoca Beach on the fourth Sunday of the month, it is worth a visit to the multi award winning Avoca Beachside Markets. Head down to Heazlett Park Foreshore, a gorgeous location right in front of the beach. This free monthly event is a way to showcase the work of the incredibly talented artists and creators in the area. As you may know, the Central Coast is known for its buzzing art scene, so why not come along and show your support.
With over 120 stalls offering products ranging from skincare, local art, handmade jewellery, homewares and homemade baked goods, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Enjoy live local music as you shop, or head to the Star 104.5FM live stage to get a better look and even dance along. Avoca Beachside Markets also offer a fresh produce section, where you can get your hands on fresh fruit, vegetables, breads, cheeses and more.
