Situated amongst the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef, Hamilton Island is a picture perfect location. It’s white sand beaches, unspoilt native bushland and crystal clear waters make it a holiday destination that’s on everyone’s bucket list. Not to mention the underwater world full of striking coral and marine life, did someone say sea turtles? With so many activities and adventures to enjoy on the island, you’ll be spoilt for choice. So, I’ll make it easy for you with a two day itinerary, equipped with something to do, somewhere to drink and somewhere to eat. Enjoy!

Hamilton Island Getaway

Day One

When it comes to accommodation, you can’t go past the Reef View Hotel. With rooms for couples, groups or families, it has something for everyone. Situated opposite Catseye Beach, the rooms offer breathtaking views of the Whitsundays, that are arguably some of the best there is. Reef View Hotel will make you want to stay and enjoy the view just as much as it will make you want to head out and experience it all close up and personal.

Something To Do

An activity that is perfect to kick start your holiday and see the island from a different perspective is, of course, a helicopter ride. There are many options available, but today you are going to be taking a ride on the Hamilton Island Air Heart Reef & Whitehaven Scenic Flight. This hour long experience allows you to marvel at the stunning gems offered in the Great Barrier Reef. Some stand-outs include:

Somewhere To Drink

After all that flying, you’ll no doubt be seeking some relaxation time. How does a swim-up pool bar, located on the waterfront, surrounded by tropical gardens sound? Well, it sounds like a trip to the Main Pool for some cocktails to me. Pina Colada time!

Somewhere To Eat

As the sun starts setting, it’s time to think about dinner. I hope you like Mexican food, because you’re off to experience traditional flavours so delicious, that your tastebuds will be having a fiesta! May I recommend the crispy fish tacos? As if the food wasn’t good enough, TAKO is located right across from the marina, offering stunning views as you eat. But don’t worry if you can’t find a seat close enough, the restaurant in itself is a vision to remember! Boasting colour, spice and fun, TAKO has an atmosphere that will make you want to stay all night long.

Day Two

Something To Do

Snorkelling is a must on your ultimate island getaway, as the view in Hamilton Island is even more spectacular underwater than on land. So, today you’ll be embarking on Explore’s Half Day Snorkel Whitsunday Islands. You’ll spend two hours swimming around the coral reef and marvelling at the vast marine life that inhabits Butterfly Bay. Surrounded by tropical fish, colourful coral and majestic sea turtles, it’s a Great Barrier Reef experience like no other.

Somewhere To Drink

After all that swimming, you’ll possibly once again be looking for somewhere to unwind and enjoy the island’s tranquil side. So, hire a buggy and head up the island at sunset for some delicious cocktails, live entertainment and stunning scenery at One Tree Hill. With almost 360 degree hilltop views over the Whitsunday Islands, a cocktail will never taste so good.

Somewhere To Eat

Time for a pub style meal in a fancy location? I know just the place. Your dinner tonight will be enjoyed at Marina Tavern. Located opposite the stunning marina, sit outside on the deck and enjoy the waterfront views. I hope you won’t mind sharing your meal with the cockatoos, though. With generous meals and a laid back atmosphere, Marina Tavern is the perfect dinner location to bring your family and friends. If you were hoping for somewhere a bit more lively, then there’s always karaoke night.

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve got to experience a little slice of paradise found in the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands. Go on and tick ‘Your Ultimate Hamilton Island Getaway’ off the bucket list! Where to next?
