With a subtropical climate, unspoilt beaches and an abundance of national parks to explore, the Mid North Coast is a true nature lover’s paradise.
While the towns of Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie can appear busy, a closer look reveals laid-back communities with friendly locals who go out of their way to make visitors feel welcome. Both make good options to base yourself in if you want access to shops, restaurants and cafes, while still making the most of the beautiful surroundings. Day trips to national parks, lakes, waterfalls, rainforests and country towns are all on offer, as are opportunities for water-based activities like fishing, diving, white water rafting and whale watching.
Of course, you could easily spend your whole visit in Port Macquarie or Coffs Harbour with plenty to see and do in both towns. Fly in from Sydney or Brisbane or cruise along the Pacific Highway with its many detours to charming beach towns and spectacular coastal lookouts.
If you fancy a quick getaway from Sydney, the twin towns of Forster-Tuncurry are the perfect destination for relaxation with miles of peaceful beaches with options for fishing, surfing, boating, coastal walks and swimming. Cape Hawke Lookout, Wallis Lake and the Bicentennial walk are all worth checking out.
The incredible UNESCO World Heritage listed Lord Howe Island also forms part of the Mid North Coast region but you will need to fly from Sydney or Brisbane. It’s definitely on our bucket list!
